This year's events honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
culminated in the performance of Ron Paris, former member of the "Platters,"
a 1960s-era rhythm and blues group. Paris, who tours with his own band
and delivers lectures on the impact of music on the civil rights movement,
presented a slide show and provided a historical analysis of important
events and how influential music was during that time. After the presentation,
Paris and his band played several popular hits, including "My Girl" by
the Temptations and "Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke. The evening ended
with a celebratory dinner at the home of Steve Morozumi, program advisor
in the ASUO Multicultural Center.
