10.04.02> OMA Retreat @ Camp Harlow

More than twenty-five new UO students of color attended OMA’s annual Fall Orientation Retreat at Camp Harlow in early October. The retreat’s primary objective was to provide a smooth transition for new students of color by connecting them to returning UO student leaders, OMA staff members, and other university resources. During the retreat, new students engaged in team building exercises, performed skits, participated in cultural sharing exercises and competed in team events. As an added attraction this year, students and staff had a great time experiencing the Zip Line at Camp Harlow. Those who wanted, strapped themselves into a harness, put on a helmet, jumped and swished across the line! It took approximately 5 seconds and much courage for some of the participants to take flight. Don’t tell anybody, but one OMA staff member just couldn’t bring herself to give it a try! Overall the end result for both students and staff was a weekend of pure fun!
