Members of the Black Student Union (BSU), along with
numerous interested participants, celebrated the African-American holiday
known as Kwanzaa on Nov. 21 in the EMU Ballroom. Composed of seven days
in which each day holds a cherished principle, students used their imaginations
to portray their meaning of the designated principle.
BSU co-director Erica Tucker, fellow members, and other students performed a skit where dances from different countries represented the principle of "unity" among all cultures. BSU program coordinator Tremaine Thompson also was part of the "faith" group that brought the UO Gospel Choir to perform at the celebration. The event ended with a better understanding about the important principles of Kwanzaa. Afterwards, participants moved to the Multicultural Center to continue the celebration and to enjoy good food. |
