Happy Kwanzaa from the Black Student Union! On November
15, 2001 in the University of Oregon Ballroom, the BSU held its annual
Kwanzaa Celebration. Kwanzaa is an African American holiday founded by
Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966. Kwanzaa, meaning "the first harvest"
is celebrated by over 18 million people around the world and its official
days are December 26-January 1. Members and friends of the BSU presented
the seven principles of Kwanzaa: Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia,
Kuumba, and Imani, to an audience of over 100 people, through creative
movement, music, acting, and poetry.
