11.15.01> BSU Kwanzaa Celebration



Happy Kwanzaa from the Black Student Union! On November 15, 2001 in the University of Oregon Ballroom, the BSU held its annual Kwanzaa Celebration. Kwanzaa is an African American holiday founded by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966. Kwanzaa, meaning "the first harvest" is celebrated by over 18 million people around the world and its official days are December 26-January 1. Members and friends of the BSU presented the seven principles of Kwanzaa: Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani, to an audience of over 100 people, through creative movement, music, acting, and poetry.
