In honor of Black History month, the women of the Sigma
Delta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated presented the
9th annual Black Heritage Fashion Show. The fashion show was held on February
10th in the EMU ballroom and was themed “Through the Years.”
Fifty models from the University of Oregon, Oregon State, Portland State,
and Linfield campuses lit up the runway with their style, grace and creativity.
Over 300 people listened attentively as the Mistress of Ceremonies, Melissa
Ballard, introduced each scene with her humor and knowledge of Black History.
There were a total of seven vignettes, among them a wedding, sports scene,
and African assemblage, and also a variety of entertainers including the
Jubilee Praise Team, and poetry from local youths. Of course, the show
would not have been complete without a Greek dance number. Various members
of the National Pan-Hellenic Council performed step routines and strolls
a definite highlight of the show.
