More than 300 people attended the 10th annual Black Heritage
Fashion Show on February 22nd in the EMU Ballroom. Presented by the Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, this year's fashion show included nearly
40 participants, including students from the UO, Oregon State University,
and the University of Washington.
The program included fashions from a traditional African wedding, a sports scene that celebrated the achievements of famous black athletes, a slide slow illustrating the devastation of the 1948 Vanport (Vancouver/Portland) flood, and a tribute to black entertainers who have recently passed away. The highlight of the day's program was the "Steppin' Out" scene, showcasing two historically black fraternities and two sororities. The "steppin" presentations excited the crowd and enabled the members of each fraternity and sorority to demonstrate pride in their respective organizations. |
