04.22.02> African-American Awareness Night
by Dan Bentley
7pm-9pm

American Awareness Night opened with the Black National Anthem sung by Nathaniel Jackson and followed with an introduction by Haben Waldu and Kawezya Hutchinson. This event was created to honor and uplift African-American students, faculty and community leaders who are working hard to make positive changes in our world.

Very often there are not enough opportunities to recognize these extraordinary individuals and show appreciation for the work they do. This night was fashioned to answer that need, to let them know that we, as a community and as individuals, care greatly for their dedication and accomplishments. The presenters were long time friends of the honorees, making the night even more memorable and moving. The event was warm and at times even hilarious as presenters, such as Dominique Beaumont and Eesha Luvert reminisced on past obstacles, surprises, and victories shared with so many people there in that room. All in all, the African-American Awareness Night was an emotional, unqualified success.
